3900 Bellaire Drive, Fort Worth, Part Deux

Our inner Gladys Kravitz took over when, a few days after we wrote about our lust crush on this baby (scroll down a few posts), an "Open House" sign appeared! We had to see the inside, along with quite a few other gawkers, including a couple of architecture students.

The gate to the back entry. Every home should come with its own 2-foot-tall Egyptian-style guards. The only way I would've loved this more is if the little guys had hopped down and whipped me up a Rusty Nail.

Buttah. A gorgeous, gleaming terrazzo floor that (we heard) extends the length of the house, much of it under the carpet.

Life would be so much simpler with an intercom system like this.
"Nick, darling, could you bring more cracked ice to the rumpus room?"

Plant your rubber tree in this corner while belting out "High Hopes."

What neighborhood was this home in? I live in Oak Cliff, and really wish I could afford an MCM in wynnewood village or Kessler, but the reality is that I can't afford it. I've been looking at the MCM's in Fort Worth, which seem to be priced much better. What neighborhoods do you recommend? I'm interested in the sunset heights 76107, 76133, and of course 76116.

Very cool! I'm a huge fan of MCM. I live in Fort Worth in a 1958 ranch (76116 Ridglea Hills) and there are some fantastic homes over here. Oh, we have a NuTone radio/intercom system in our house - too bad it no longer works!

Oh, Anonymous - If you're looking in Fort Worth for MCM - definitely check out 76116. All of the "Ridglea" neighborhoods (Ridglea, Ridgmar, Ridglea North, and Ridglea Hills) are practically nothing but 50s modern and ranch homes. The majority of 76107 is bungalows and tudors. The MCM areas in 76133 are pretty far south (Wedgwood type area) and the prices are lower, but I think the neighborhood is a little better in 76116. Just my .02!

Thanks for the info Pam! I found this home in the 76107 area, but the price seems a bit high for the kind of remodel I would need to do.

It's empty so I just had to peek in it. What a pretty house, and great design!

Anyone who is interested in a MCM style home and wants to get one for pennies on the dollar- check out East Fort Worth, some builders were enthusiasts who built many of the homes of of 820/ 30 before Oakland blvd on both the north and south sides of 820 past where 30 intersects (to Randol Mill road of 820 and between Cooks Lane and Oakland the on 30. Because of the notorious FWISD and the fact that many people are hesitant to invest where minorities, namely Latinos and African Americans live, namely because of the crime and sometimes over reported incidents of crime, many people are not taking advantage of these homes and investing in them to bring them back to their original ardor. The best deals in all of DFW- the Meadowbrook Ryanwood Area, the Eastern Hills area, the Woodhaven area.

@Jehireh: Agreed. East Fort Worth has the best MCM house values in FW. You can find a cool ranch-style house with many original features in the low $100s. I think East FW gets a bad rap. I have lots of friends who live over there and absolutely love it. Thanks for bringing this up,J.
