Bar Carts: Not Just for Liquid Lunch Anymore

God bless Don Draper and his pickled little heart. He seems to have single-handedly resurrected the cool factor on the old-fashioned bar cart (not to mention the Old Fashioned itself.)

Not that long ago, they seemed to have gone the way of the three-martini lunch. Now they are back stronger than a New Year's Day hangover. Above is a picture of the bar cart in my office. You'd be surprised how many people are up for a touch of brown liquor in the middle of the day.

A couple of musts (beyond the booze) for any bar cart (IMO) are a great ice bucket, a funky ashtray, cool retro matches, funky swizzle sticks and cool serving tray.

What about y'all? Share your bar cart stories in the comments. What makes a good bar cart? How do you put yours together? Do tell. I'm curious.

I have a large teak cart with a glass top. I just bought a Hellerware chrome and teak ice bucket that looks great with my etched vintage martini shaker (posted about them on my blog the other day, in fact). I have my eye on a set of Hellerware glasses in cork-lined sleeves.

Ooh! Send pictures. By the way, you have an awesome Danish-style cart on your site. Anyone looking for a bar cart should check it out. I've added a link to the awesomeness that is Mid2Mod in Exposition Park to blogroll. Can't wait to check it out in person.

Wow Steve, your cool factor just went off the charts! Your bar cart makes me want to put on a pretty dress and have friends over for a cocktail party. I'll definitely be going to look at Mid2Mod too. Thanks for the inspiration.

Completely unrelated but there's a thread currently at the FB Friends of Atomic Ranch page triggered by this house.

Found this over in Dallas. It's in bad shape, but has many original MCM features that I thought everyone would like to see. Check out the bathroom...fish mosaic, that's all I'll say. :) http://www.trulia.com/property/photos/3047944675-7138-Vivian-Ave-Dallas-TX-75223#item-20

I considered moving to Dallas for a MCM buy but the real estate market will have to recover here in Eugene, OR.
